Creep Wave and Surface Wave Transducers
GB Inspection System’s transducers are available in a wide range of specifications for general purpose ultrasonic testing, flaw detection through to application specific inspections.
Surface Wave transducers are the most accurate method of testing for surface cracks. Surface wave ultrasonic inspection transmits high frequency sound waves around the circumference to detect conditions that reflect or absorb the sound waves. All interfaces will reflect or scatter the waves to some degree. This includes cracks, inclusions, grain boundaries and other discontinuities.
Creep wave transducers generate a sound wave that travels along the material just beneath the surface (1-3 mm), parallel to the surface. Creep waves have the advantage that, being longitudinal waves, they are far less attenuated in austenitic and Inconel weld metal than shear waves.
